G&A Named IRS Certified Professional Employer Organization (CPEO)

HOUSTON – June 7, 2017 – G&A Partners, a leading national professional employer organization (PEO) and HR outsourcing provider, announced that it is now among the first PEOs in the country to be named a Certified Professional Employer Organization (CPEO) by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

To become and remain certified under the IRS Certified Professional Employer Organization program, PEOs were required to meet tax status, background, experience, financial reporting, bonding and other requirements described in the statute and regulations.

The program is the result of provisions of the Small Business Efficiency Act (SBEA), which was signed into law in 2014.  In addition to establishing a PEO certification process within the IRS, the SBEA gave certified PEOs the clear statutory authority to collect and remit federal employment taxes on behalf of their clients under the PEO’s Employer Identification Number, and eliminates the wage base restart provision, which can result in double taxation for businesses who initiate or terminate a relationship with a PEO during the year.

“The IRS Certified Professional Employer Organization program represents a step forward for the PEO industry, both for the PEOs themselves and our clients,” said Grijalva.  “Now that the potential issue of double taxation has been removed, we hope that many more businesses will see the value a PEO can provide, including minimized costs, greater operating efficiencies and peace of mind when it comes to regulatory compliance issues.”

In addition to its recent certification by the IRS, G&A Partners has also been certified by the Employer Services Assurance Corporation (ESAC), an independent, non-profit accreditation and financial assurance entity, since 2014.  ESAC accreditation provides PEO clients, their employees, taxing authorities and insurers with financial assurance to cover important PEO employer fiduciary responsibilities.
