SHRM: How Restrictive Hiring is Shaping HR Strategies

How is restrictive hiring impacting your organization’s HR strategy? G&A Partners’ Eleesha Martin and Susan Crowder have seen this scenario play out firsthand many times.

In a recent Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) article “Precision Over Scale: The New Rules of Hiring in 2026,” Martin and Crowder share how organizations are shifting recruitment and retention efforts in response to this year’s hiring trends.

“Restrictive hiring is forcing organizations to be far more intentional about how work gets done,” says Martin, G&A’s director of corporate recruiting.

Martin adds that prioritizing quality of hire over volume and internal mobility will give organizations a competitive advantage.

Internal mobility and employee development are part of a broader strategic approach businesses can take in response to limited hiring, explains Crowder, G&A’s HR manager of strategic services.

“Retention becomes a natural result of that investment,” says Crowder.
