Candidate Preparation and Success Resources
Resume Do’s & Don’ts
Pro tip: Your resume should be easy for both a recruiter and an ATS system to read. If it’s clean, clear, and tailored, you’re on the right track.
DO:
✔ Keep it simple and clean
Use a clear layout, standard fonts (Arial, Calibri, Times New Roman), and consistent formatting.
✔ Tailor your resume to the role
Adjust your experience, skills, and keywords to match the job description.
✔ Use standard section headers
Experience • Skills • Education • Certifications
✔ Highlight achievements
Show results with numbers when possible (e.g., “Reduced costs by 15%”).
✔ Use bullet points
Make your resume easy to scan quickly.
✔ Include relevant keywords naturally
Especially tools, skills, and certifications listed in the job posting.
✔ Save as PDF or Word
These formats work best with most applicant tracking systems.
✔ Proofread carefully
Spelling and formatting errors can hurt your chances.
DON’T:
✘ Use graphics, images, or icons
They often can’t be read by ATS systems.
✘ Use tables, columns, or text boxes
These can break formatting and hide information from recruiters.
✘ Submit an overly long resume
Most resumes should be 1–2 pages.
✘ Copy and paste the same resume for every job
Generic resumes are easier to overlook.
✘ Use unusual fonts or colors
Stick to professional, easy-to-read styles.
✘ Include personal details
No photos, age, marital status, or full address needed.
✘ Overuse acronyms or abbreviations
Spell out terms at least once so both people and systems understand.
✘ Include outdated or irrelevant experience
Focus on what’s most relevant to the role you’re applying for.
Helpful Tips for Virtual Interviews
Virtual interviews require the same level of preparation and professionalism as in-person meetings. Here are some tips to help you make a great impression.
Helpful Tips for Virtual Interviews
Dress for success
Even though the interview is virtual, professional attire is strongly recommended. Dressing the part helps set the right tone and shows respect for the opportunity. And don’t forget—your smile and positive energy go a long way on camera.
Arrive a few minutes early
Plan to join your virtual interview 3–5 minutes ahead of time. This gives you a buffer to test your technology, adjust your camera and audio, and settle in before the conversation begins.
Prepare thoughtful questions
Take a few minutes beforehand to jot down questions you’d like to ask at the end of the interview. This shows genuine interest in the role and helps you determine if the position and company are the right fit for you.
Have your resume handy
Keep a copy of your resume nearby for easy reference. Reviewing your experience during the interview can help you speak confidently about your background and accomplishments.
Choose a quiet, professional space
When possible, avoid taking virtual interviews from your car or public locations. A private, quiet space with minimal distractions allows you to focus and present yourself professionally.
Communicate if plans change
If an unexpected situation arises and you’re unable to attend your scheduled interview, please notify us as soon as possible. This allows us to cancel or reschedule and ensures everyone’s time is respected.
