In a labor market where "off-the-shelf" talent is rare, how do companies stay ahead? The answer isn't necessarily a better recruiting firm. Job rotation can be the key to filling positions with qualified talent.

In a recent Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) article, “Job Rotation Programs Drive Internal Mobility and Skills Growth,” G&A Partners’ Susan Crowder provides the practical, "boots-on-the-ground" perspective for making these rotation programs work.

Crowder explains that these programs allow employees in your organization to experience different functions, provide exposure to other parts of the business, boost collaboration across the organization, and identify potential process improvements and efficiencies.

“I tend to see these programs used for leadership development or succession planning, but it could be open to anyone who wants to stretch and is interested in learning new skills,” says Crowder. “Rotations are particularly useful for niche roles that are hard to recruit for, or roles that are critical and would benefit from a built-in talent pipeline.”
