Employee Resource Groups Provide Employee Support

Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) strategies encompass more than workplace safety and environmental compliance, says G&A Partners’ Senior HR Advisor Amy VanHooser in the EHS Today article.

In the article “Enhancing Employee Support Through Employee Resource Groups,” VanHooser writes that many organizations also include emotional wellness and mental health in the mix.

One of the best ways to forward mental health and wellness within an organization is through employee resource groups (ERGs).

“Originally designed to foster inclusion and build community,” writes Van Hooser, “ERGs are now also emerging as a vital platform to support mental wellness, reduce stigmas, and bridge the gaps often seen between employee concerns and employer support.”

ERGs can also promote personal and professional development and skill-building.

“When leveraged effectively, ERGs provide employees with a safe environment to share ideas, develop leadership skills, and influence company culture. These groups also create opportunities for skill-building that extend beyond the ERG itself, helping members advance in their careers,” says VanHooser.
