Recruiting Strategies for Small Business Owners

Webinar Recap

Many small business owners who fought to keep their companies afloat during the pandemic face new challenges in 2022. Chief among those is finding and hiring quality candidates to fill existing or new positions in a competitive labor market that features continuing trends of low unemployment coupled with record numbers of job openings – month after month. “I’ve been recruiting for over 20 years, and I’m still in shock over what’s going on in today’s job market,” said Eleesha Martin, G&A Partners’ Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) Services Manager, during our latest webinar, Recruiting Strategies for Small Business Owners. “It is particularly challenging for small business owners who may not have a dedicated HR/recruiting team.”

Martin says there are 31.7 million small businesses in America that employ at least 61.2 million people, which is around 18% of the total population. These business owners are more vulnerable to various changes resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent Great Resignation, a moniker coined by Texas A&M University professor Anthony Klotz to describe the large number of workers quitting their jobs in the pandemic’s latter days. In addition to high turnover, small business owners struggle to adapt to new ways of doing business, hybrid work schedules, and attracting and retaining new employees. “If you’ve noticed your recruiting efforts are not as effective as before the pandemic, stop and evaluate your process and see where you can make changes,” Martin said. “A new process will help your organization meet new challenges when competing for the best available talent.”

During the webinar, Martin reveals proactive steps to take when updating your company’s recruiting program and low-cost strategies you can employ to put your company on an even playing field when competing for top candidates. Here’s what you’ll learn:

  • How to tailor job interviews to each candidate and the different types of questions you can ask depending on the interview type (standard, behavioral, situational, panel).
  • Action you should take to avoid losing top candidates during the interview process and why it’s essential to communicate with all candidates (not just your top choices) about the next steps in your process.
  • How hybrid and flexible work schedules can make a difference between a candidate choosing your position over the competition’s.
  • Seventeen low- or no-cost perks that can boost your employee benefits package without hurting your business’ bottom line.
  • How partnering with a Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) provider can take your company’s recruiting and hiring processes to the next level.
