Getting Into The Weeds Of Legalized Marijuana

An Update on the Current Landscape of Legalized Marijuana

As the push to legalize marijuana continues to gain traction across all levels of government, more and more employers are faced with the issue of how to deal with marijuana use among their workforce.

The landscape of legalized marijuana has changed considerably in just the last 12 months: three conservative states (Utah, Missouri, and Oklahoma) joined the 21 other states that have legalized marijuana for medicinal purposes; Michigan became the tenth state (and the first state in the Midwest) to legalize recreational marijuana usage in November; and President Trump legalized hemp on the federal level (a plant that is very similar to marijuana) with the passage of the Farm Bill in December.

In this webinar, Dave Berndt, one of G&A Partners’ Sr. HR Advisers and an experienced corporate attorney, updates employers on the current landscape of legalized marijuana in the U.S. and provides an overview of employers’ rights,  responsibilities, and limitations when it comes to regulating marijuana usage among their workforce.

Presentation Highlights:

  • An update on where marijuana use is currently legal in the U.S.
  • Review of general elements of marijuana usage laws (both medical and recreational)
  • An overview of the impact of marijuana legalization laws on drug testing, pre-hire screening, discrimination, and termination practices in the workplace
